Welcome to the home page of Ship 956 - Clearwater, Florida.

We're a sailing club for coed teens, ages 14-21. Ship 956 is part of the B.S.A. Sea Scouting/Venturing program, and has been active in the West Central Florida Council in theTampa Bay area for over ten years. Supervised by qualified adults, members receive training, run the program and decide on activities for the coming year.

Knowing how to sail is not a requirement; learning is part of the club, and we have experienced people to teach you. We're always looking for new, adventurous members to go sailing, camping, racing with local fleets and of course, our annual week-long cruise to the Bahamas, the Keys or whatever new ports we decide to explore.

We have a small fleet of boats that we own and maintain including a 23' Compac, three Sunfish, and a 24' Ericson, as well as access to members' boats. We charter larger sailboats for annual cruises.

Ship 956 Vision Statement:

"To learn as much about boating while having as much fun as possible.
To encourage safety, responsibility, and leadership skills.
To have fun while accomplishing these goals highlighting the ideals of Sea Scouting.
To keep in mind an organized ship is a happy ship.
We will try and invite as many people as possible to join in this merriment."

23 September 2011 -- This past weekend, the crew went island camping. A great time was had by all (except for the ants!). During the event, the crew managed to clean the bottoms of both Shenanigans and Loree Anne. Both boats are in good shape for cooler weather.

We had a number of potential recruits visit the Ship for this past Monday night sail. The sailing was great until we got chased off the water by an approaching lightning storm.

The crew is looking forward to our next camping event. Florida camping gets better in fall and winter season!

13 Sepember 2011 -- It's been a busy summer for Ship 956. We've been sailing our newly painted and decaled Sunfish. We've gotten our by-laws in order (see Ship's Log for details), and have held Quarterdeck elections. Recruitment is starting to pick up, and there are potential major changes to our program on the way. We'll be island camping this weekend and will be attending regattas in the near future. Want to learn more? Come join us for a Monday sail!

This summer, part of the Ship's crew successfully completed the Venture Leader Skills Course. Congratulations!
