Ship # 956

Navigation Excercise

Sat 25-Mar-2006

Weather Prediction: Cool and Breezy

Before Leaving the Dock:

1.)

a.) Determine the distance from Dunedin Marina to Dunedin Causeway Bridge.

b.) Assume a boat making 4 knots. Determine how long it will take to reach the bridge.

2.) Find the 2-3 ft. mound North of the bridge. Find landmarks to know when you are there.

3.) Find a channel to get to the Northpoint of Honeymoon Island. Plot a course (time, direction and distance) from the mound to that point.

Leave:

1.) Time the trip North to the bridge, motor sail a straight line if necessary.

2.) Request a bridge opening, motor through and find the mound.

3.) Heave to over the mound. Use the boat hook to determine the depth.

4.) Travel to the North point + anchor

    or

Plot a course to go out wide pass North of Honeymoon Island. Travel to the pass and determine the sea state outside.

5.) Turn around and return to Dunedin marina

    or

Go outside and come back in Hurricane Pass South and South East.
